Why Welcoming Global Talent Keeps the U.S. Competitive and Dynamic

There is no doubt that the influx of immigrants into the USA makes the country’s economy more dynamic, largely preventing economic stagnation and fostering continuous development. After all, many who come to the USA are inspired by dreams and are capable of moving mountains. Such individuals often achieve success without useful connections or starting capital. Then they help others succeed by creating new companies – and new jobs.

We have already shared some insights about the positive impact of immigrants on the American economy –  for example, in our recent blog post Immigrants – Invisible Engines of Innovation. Now, we want to discuss in more detail how immigrants arrive in the USA, drawn by the glow of the American Dream – and how it is realized in their lives, positively influencing many others as well.

Success Began with Failures

Jyoti Bansal, who came from a small town in India, became the founder of the renowned company AppDynamics, which develops application performance management systems. It’s hard to imagine now that he once faced difficulties obtaining a green card: he waited for it for 7 years.

Bansal’s path to dizzying success began with a series of failures, but the immigrant did not give up. Initially, the company consisted of just one employee – Jyoti himself. Today he recalls how difficult it was to find the first investor. He admits that it was scary at first. But the dream gave him strength.

A few years ago, the company was sold for $3.7 billion. Bansal became not only a multimillionaire but also the creator of a highly successful business and numerous jobs for Americans.

A Bit About Cybersecurity

Another striking example is Dmitry Alperovich, an immigrant from Russia. He left his homeland with his father in 1994 when he was a teenager. Seventeen years later, he became one of the founders of CrowdStrike, a company protecting intellectual property and fighting cybercrime.

A few years ago, he established his own Cybersecurity Research Institute. Alperovich is also known for his philanthropy.

Other Success Stories

The list of immigrants who have founded successful companies and created numerous new jobs could go on for a long time. They come from Canada and Israel, India and China, the UK and Russia.

Regardless of how we feel about Elon Musk, it is worth mentioning him when listing successful immigrants – he is originally from South Africa. There are also less well-known names such as Yoni Feng, John Sun, and Al Goldstein. All of them are immigrants who have made the US economy more dynamic and more successful.
